Kitchen Appliances play an important role in our busy family lives, especially for people with culinary interests. A good kitchen appliance can save you time every day, and help you prepare your favourite dishes in a much more efficient way. One of the major appliance for everyday use is definitely the mixer grinder.
From Durga Puja to Diwali and then Christmas, the festive season is in full swing, and there is no end to indulging in various delicacies. So I was more than happy, when I received the smart and sleek Preethi Zodiac MG218 5 Jar Mixer Grinder as a part of their outreach program, for evaluation and feedback.
We have been using an old Preethi mixer grinder for more than 7 years now and we had very minor maintenance issues with that. The new one is a much more advanced version, with so many additional features which we felt, would help us to attempt many more things on this. Functions supported include citrus press, atta kneading and chopping of vegetables.
Preethi Zodiac Mixer Grinder has five jars - wet grinder, dry grinder, chutney jar, 3-in-1 fresh fruit jar and the most wonderful multi-functional Master Chef Jar, with measurements provided on the side in cups or millilitres. There are a total of 7 fixed or detachable blades, which not only does wet and dry grinding and blending like a regular mixer-grinder, but also can handle other functions like chopping, grating, slicing, kneading dough, extracting fruit and vegetable juices, and even crushing ice. And all these are been done at super speed with great ease with the powerful 750 W motor, which is what the Preethi brand Is especially known for. The faster motor cooling mechanism ensures that the motor has a long life too.
A few of the features that we find handy in this new mixer grinder needs to be elaborated. Because of this efficient motor, grinding harder items like almonds, cinnamon, turmeric and coconut pieces and grating the carrot, beetroot cubes have become so much easier and can be done in a minute or two. Mincing boneless pieces of mutton is a much-desired feature which is very useful for a non-vegetarian family like ours.
The Chopping Blade attachment ensures cutting vegetables to the desired size in a very short time.
The Slicing attachment helps produce even sliced pieces from vegetables like gourd, potato and yam. Using this attachment, salads can be prepared in a jiffy.
There is a special atta kneading blade for kneading the atta to uniform consistency every evening for your rotis. The time takes is very less, about a minute, sparing us from the cumbersome task every evening.
The Master Chef Jar along with the Citrus Press can process up to 750 grams of fruits. A feature I found particularly helpful is that with the Master Chef Jar along with the citrus press, an attachable spout is also provided to pour out the extracted juice. This spout can also be attached with the fresh fruit jar for the same purpose.
There is a 3-in-1 Insta Press Juicer with various attachments. Highlights for us were the Super Extractor (which enable you to draw out almost the last drop of juice from fruits) and the Blender (which can be used to quickly prepare drinks such as milkshakes and lassi).
We love the local pachadis and chutneys of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and the small Chutney Jar helps us to follow the recipes and wet grind the ingredients into delightful chutneys. We also use it to prepare some important ingredients for Bengali cooking like mustard or khuskhus paste with uniform consistency.
Overall a great product which is useful for daily use, and can easily be utilized while scaling up with guests coming in for dinner or hosting a party at home. In today’s small families with both spouses working, as it can accomplish so many functions at a very less time. The product is not inexpensive, but given the good quality steel, lightweight, sleek finish, and the smart looks and shine, it definitely gives you a bang for your buck. Preethi is a popular brand for kitchen appliances with a goodwill of about forty years, and are also known for their Induction Cookers and Pressure Cookers. The product comes with 5 years of motor warranty and 2 years of product guarantee.
Note: The appliance was sent to Foodaholix by the manufacturer for an evaluation and feedback.
